Iron Redux
Now for Sale at kijkshop: Burtynsky-style steam iron. This time branded by Inventum. Not an exact match to the one in the analysis. But the configuration is the same. The spray button, steam controll, water opening, spraynozzle, the three part body shell. I bet it has the same internal organs. And look at the prize: Über cheap!Labels: Burtynsky, Iron, Merkwurdig

Iron DejaVu
This weekend I saw Edward Burtynskys Manufactured Landscapes, about the unimaginable effects of mankind's pursuit of consumerism.(Trailer)
This documentary starts in a factory which produces amongst other things, steam irons. It shows some very nice images of the assembly line. The model in question is the same as an iron I once encountered in a Boothroyd analysis. Such analysis is made to optimize assembly times These are some screen shots from the Burtynsky trailer.
If you are wondering what these people actually are doing; it's this...
And the accompanying excel sheet.
And finally the exploded view of the iron. No solidworks or 3d stuff involved here. Old fashioned hard work making this one. Actually smuggled a bit. The small spray nozzle can be disected into 4 more parts, as does the spray valve.
